Success in parliament towards ratification of Istanbul Convention

Today (24 February) the Istanbul Convention passed its Third Reading in the House of Commons.

Today (24 February) the Istanbul Convention passed its Third Reading in the House of Commons.

Eilidh Whiteford MP remarked that the Convention, which when ratified will solidify government commitment to ending violence against women and girls, has huge potential to make concrete improvements to the lives of women and girls across the UK.

The Third Reading follows the Second Reading on 16th December 2016 which was met with a landslide vote.

Today’s success is thanks to the continued work of Eilidh Whiteford MP and SNP Senior Parliamentary Advisor Nathan Sparling, as well as all the MPs who spoke and voted in support of the Convention, and the energy and commitment of the #ICChange campaign.
